Guided by the voices and experiences of those who live in the margins of oppressive systems of anti-Black racism and ableism, NC-BDN uses the collaborative approach of planning and decision-making within the community to address the needs and desires of Black disabled people. We believe that individuals should determine what services, access, and quality of care should include.
Interview: Parent Advocates
Currently, there are no Historically Black Colleges/Universities (HBCUs) in North Carolina that offer IPSE programs. However, there are three Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs) in NC that offer these programs: UNC-Greensboro, Appalachian State University, and Western Carolina University. In the video below, you will hear from parents about their journey with their sons that were enrolled in IPSE programs in two of the PWIs in North Carolina. They also share insight as to why it would be beneficial for HBCUs to consider establishing IPSE programs for students with intellectual disabilities.
